The Light in the Brutalist began as a project where I was looking at many of the buildings around the city, however as I was looking at these buildings I was drawn further into one architectural movement which is considered as obsolete to many, yet it possesses somewhat of a natural beauty to it.
Starting to look at the Barbican as a site, I realised that it wasn't just the concept of the Brutalist that has somewhat made me obsessed with the space, however it was the way in which the lighting moved through the space, so I decided to look in greater detail at the site, capturing every detail that I could, photographing the way the light moves through the spaces on the estate, each turn round a corner showing a different area of concrete being shown in a different light, in a way expresses the rough texture of the hand drilled concrete, which is one of the aspects that makes this site so unique.
I feel that by looking at the light within the Barbican Centre it has shown to me that any movement of architecture can show aspects of it that can appear beautiful in any lighting no matter the choice of material of the finishes that have been applied to it.
